Driving Home For Christmas… Safely

car body repairs, Tips No Comments

Well, it’s finally just about upon us; although the shops and radio stations may have you believe it’s been upon us since around September. Conducting our mobile car body repairs in London, we find that there are repeated errors that many drivers tend to make around this time of year. We’re not sure whether it’s the cold, the thought of returning to a houseful of friends and family or if there’s something in the mince pies, but people seem to make a lot of stupid errors driving home for Christmas.

Why can’t everyone be like Chris Rea?

Get Your Vehicle Checked

When it comes to draining of batteries, this time of the year is the worse. With heating being blasted to eleven and lights on continuously, it’s no wonder. It’s this time of year where you need to keep an eye on the performance of your car because it can switch at any moment, so to prevent that you should take it in for a test. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Pay Courtesy to Other Drivers

It’s their festive period too you know! Yule (sorry) be more than familiar with the rudeness of other drivers, but people seem to step up their discourtesy at this time of year. Maybe they’ve used it up on buying presents for other people, we can’t be sure, but be aware of it! Manners cost nothing, so make sure you flex them.

Keep a Safe Distance

The weather is a tricky customer at this time of year, so make sure that you abide by the rules of the road. Take extra care when its slippy as your breaking distance can be multiplied by up to 10 times! Pretty staggering! Even in wet conditions it can be doubled, so be extra-extra-careful.

Monitor Your High and Low Beam Usage

When you see another car coming ahead, make sure you dip your headlights. Visibility is at a bit of a low at this time of year so make sure that you give other drivers the opportunity to be able to see the best they can.

Commonsense and courtesy can be somewhat limited on the road at the best of times, let alone around Christmas, so make sure you remain vigilant. Everyone wants to get home in time, and you won’t get there any quicker being rash and inconsiderate.
